Letter #51

 

Funny little picture (says "coffee, the fountain of life for El Salvador"😂🤦‍♂️) thought it was funny, the majority here are addicted to coffee, some to the point where they give coffee to their little little kids instead of milk😅

Heyyy everyone!! Como están?? Happy 4th of July!!! To celebrate, surprise surprise, an email 2 weeks in a row!😂🇺🇲 Here's a couple things that happened this week:

1. We've had a hard time getting friends to church this week, but this Sunday we fasted to have our friends come and not only did some come, but 2 friends we have never met came out of the blue!! Fasting works!!

2. It's my last week here in the mission. It's insane, I still can't believe it. But this past Sunday, a member from Las Cañas (my old area) came to see me and say goodbye, it was super cool and sweet of her (even though she went up during testimony meeting and told the whole ward I was going home soon😂🤦‍♂️)

3. My companion is tired😂. We've been working super hard, he wants to go to bed an hour early every day😂. He's a beast though, it's been a blast, we've been seeing a lot of miracles together.

4. For my last Pday in the mission, we hiked another volcano! This time in San Vicente, supposedly higher than the one in San Miguel. We left the house at 2 this morning😅😂 but it was totally worth it. May or may not have spent 30+ minutes convincing my companion to come, but in the end we got it done🤝 Pictures below!

5. Spiritual thought. After 2 years, I've figured out my favorite chapter of the Book of Mormon. I was reading Helaman 5 this week, and holy moly, it's such a spiritually powerful chapter and story. I could go on and on about the things I like and learned, but I'll just give the highlights:

Verses 5-14: Helaman teaching his sons, Nephi and Lehi. The main topic is to remember (spiritual experiences, words of the prophets, and more than anything, that Jesus is the Christ)

15-19: The success of Nephi and Lehi as missionaries (literally baptized 8,000 people, holy moly they were such powerful missionaries🔥🔥)

20-52: A whole lot of other things😂 Being thrown in jail, the Lord saving them miraculously, converting the people who threw them in jail, the converted people converting everyone else, and in the end, resolving what probably was about a decade long war without any fighting (such an insane story)

To make a long story short, I love this chapter. I invite you to read it, especially if you are having a hard time or feeling insecure about yourself or your abilities.

That's about it though! Sorry, it was a long one this week. But the last thing, I'll be reporting my mission the 19th of July at 10 AM, everyone is invited!   Hola, como estan?? Esta semana fue super loca , a lot went down this past week To start off, sorry it's been a while, I sent an email last week but I don’t think it ever went through.... so just for a quick recap, I got transferred to an area called La Espiga, where I'm covering a ward and a group, and I'm also a trainer, training Elder Godfrey!  Training has been fun and interesting. Let me just sum it up in one conversation we had... the gist of it was me asking "where are the norms (missionary standards handbook) that they gave you?" His reply was "I never got those"  It's been fun though, he's doing well and learning pretty fast, even though some days he makes me want to pull my hair out (I suppose that’s why they call it having a kid in the mission ) The work is going great over here, we have a lot of people progressing and a couple fechas (baptism dates) here pretty soon! First comp pic with Elder Cook Welcome back to the country Hola a todos, como estamos?? Here's a couple things that have gone down here in the past couple weeks First up, transfers hit super hard. After 6 months in Las Cañas I was transferred to a pueblito (little town) called San Rafael. It's clear across the mission, in the Usulutan zone. Ngl, it was super sad to leave Las Cañas and all of the converts there, and unfortunately we weren't able to leave with another baptism, but we did leave 7 dates for this month of February!! This area couldn't be more different than my last; there I was in the city, and now it's open country. I came from a ward, and now we're trying to start a branch down here (super crazy stuff), and now I'm with Elder Cook who's in his 3rd transfer, so it's a blast!! Zona Usulutan Exchanges with Elder Hunter Some area photos Holaaa a todos! Como estan?? It's been a little while, thought I'd give a quick run down of what's been going on: 1. Had 5 friends at church this past week!! (Finally!! ) It's about at least a 45 minute drive to the church, so it was a super big miracle!! 2. Still don't have a house in our area, we might not have one this transfer. It's ok though, getting to know a bunch of cool people in the bus 3. Went to a future-missionary conference in San Miguel and got to see all of of my old friends and converts from Moncagua, it was super awesome seeing them after a year!! 4. About the title: Let's just say to get home in the night time we've waited for a bus 5 times, but 3 of the 5 times random strangers have stopped and given us rides . They've led to 2 cool conversations about how they met the missionaries before, and only 1 near death experience with a drowsy driver playing and purposely brake ch...
